Alois “Leo” Vascik, age 81 of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born on November 8, 1935 in Rossford to George and Anna (Augustiny) Vascik. Leo was a 1954 graduate of Rossford High School. On August 6, 1955 he married Marlene (Burdo) and together they raised five children. He was employed with Bob Schmidt Chevrolet as a body shop technician for more than 42 years, retiring in 1999.
Leo enjoyed gardening, antiques, and model ship building. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan and enjoyed traveling to Indianapolis for the 500 time trials. Leo was an impressive handyman and perfectionist in everything he did. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Leo’s favorite motto was “measure twice, cut once”.
Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Marlene; children, Julia (Jeff) Swartz, Mark, Leo (Cheryl), John (Shirley) and Susan (Tom) Kaiser; grandchildren, Leo Jr., Tiffany, Heather, Cristina, Russell, Nicole, Michelle, Bryce, Andrew, Sara, Magi, Casey, Cody, Shannon, and Craig. Also surviving are 26 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Valentine, Jerome, Robert, Richard, George, and Bernard Vascik.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. Rossford, OH 43460 on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 4-7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Tim Davies officiating. Interment will follow at FT. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of Leo’s caregivers at Kingston in Perrysburg and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
