John Steven Pupik, Sr. age 83 of Rossford, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after a long illness. He was born on September 21, 1934 in Rossford, Ohio to John and Veronica (Paluch) Pupik. John attended Rossford High School and left school early to proudly serve his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1952-56 as a B-36 and F-4 mechanic. He married Joan (Names-Gyori) on January 30, 1965 and together they raised five children. He was employed with Chrysler in Perrysburg for 25 years until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Rossford American Legion the Northwood VFW Post #2984 and president of the Local Assembly 214 of the Slovak Catholic Sokol. John was a die-hard Steelers, Tigers and Notre Dame Fan. He was an avid bowler who participated in many leagues and tournaments over the years. He enjoyed taking trips to Frankenmuth, MI and visiting different casinos. John loved spending time watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and taking drives around the town. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Joan; children, Patricia Gyori; James (Lisa) Gyori; Peggi (Jeff) Szymanski; Lynn Pupik and John S. (Nikki) Pupik, Jr.; grandchildren, Kristen, Derek, Brandon and Brooke Gyori, Matthew, Megan and Michael Szymanski, John III, Monica, Jacob Pupik and Jordan Krause; sisters, Minnie Ilconich and Millie Bauserman. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary (Frank) Nekoranec, Irene (Francis) Walla and Helen (Paul) Gregor; brothers in-law, George Ilconich and Robert Bauserman.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 2 to 8 PM where Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10 AM at All Saints Catholic Church where the family will greet guests beginning at 9 AM in the church narthex. Interment will follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg with Military Honors provided by the Northwood VFW Post 2984. Contributions in John’s memory may be directed to All Saints Catholic Church.
