Marilyn McAlear, age 82 of Rossford, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018. She was born on August 25, 1935 the second of five girls, to Clarence and Evelyn (Gumb) Veigel. Marilyn was a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo where she was ranked academically first in her class. She married Patrick Brennan McAlear on December 29, 1956 and together they raised two sons. She worked for Service Spring Corporation as the Chief Financial Officer for 37 years retiring in 2004. She was on the Board of Directors for Mid-American Bank, University of Toledo, Lourdes University and the Toledo Yacht Club. Marilyn was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Rossford. She was very devoted to God and family. She was heavily involved in church activities and other spiritual pursuits such as distributing Communion to the patients in hospice care, as she loved the Lord deeply. She treasured her family members and she was happiest surrounded by them in joy and in sorrow. She was fun-loving, loyal, generous and always willing to assist others in worthy endeavors. Marilyn was “personality plus” and brightened any room that she entered. Friends, many whom were life-long were very important to her and they were considered precious and loved. She will be forever missed and never forgotten.
Surviving is her loving husband of 61 years, Patrick McAlear; son, Thomas (Tammy) McAlear, MD; daughter in-law, Gloria McAlear; grandchildren, Kevin (Sarah), Michelle, Matthew (Jenn), Brian, Julie, Brennan and Connor McAlear; great-grandchildren, Nora Rose McAlear and Jude Hernandez; sisters, Judith Roberts, Linda Ruggiero and Sharon Urzykowski. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael McAlear; and her sister, Carol Mueller.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Rd. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 3-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 25, 2018 at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., where the family will greet visitors in the church narthex beginning at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. The family would like to recognize the extremely important role that Marilyn’s sister, Judy Roberts and Marilyn’s son, Tom McAlear, M.D. played in helping her cope with her illness. Thanks, also to Lou Ann Kress for bringing Marilyn Communion each week. They would also like to extend a very special thanks to Rev. Anthony Recker and Rev. Joseph Steinbauer. The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the many visitors who brought joy to Marilyn during her final days. Also, thanks to the Visiting Angels, especially Dee, Oma and Victoria who provided additional care and comfort for her. It is suggested that memorial contributions in Marilyn’s memory be directed to All Saints Catholic Church or the Cherry Street Mission.
