Mary Jane Davenport, affectionately known to many as Grandma D, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the age of 99. She was born in Rossford, Ohio on November 30, 1918 to Marion and Forest (Steward) Reed.
Mary Jane was a 1936 graduate of Rossford High School. In 1938 she married Howard “Slim” Davenport and he preceded her in death in 1972. For many years she worked as a nurse in the office of Dr. Gerarld G. Woods and subsequently Dr. A. Thambuswamy, retiring in 1990. She spent the next 16 years working along with her friend and former director, Pat Sloan, as a volunteer at the Rossford Community Recreation Center.
One of Mary Jane's greatest assets was her devotion and dedication to her family, friends, job, and volunteer work. In 2005 she was recognized by Medical Mutual of Ohio as the "Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award Winner" for exemplary community volunteer service.
Mary Jane is survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey Davenport, Jennifer Howard, Jeanine (John) Alexander, Kelly (Don) Jackson, Kristen Davenport and Troy Davenport; great-grandchildren, Katie Howard, Kyle (Jordan) Howard, Zachary Leahy, Maggie Leahy, Margo Jackson, Reed Jackson; great-great-granddaughter Layla Howard and daughter-in-law Lorene Davenport. Also surviving is her dear, dedicated friend Patricia (Claude) Sloan.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; sons Gary and Gerald "Tuffy" Davenport and brother, Victor Reed.
In accordance with Mary Jane's wishes all services were private. Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford assisted the family with arrangements.
